How to make honey mustard

Honey mustard sauce is not a typical barbecue sauce, but it is still a perfect companion for every barbecue evening, as it can be used in many ways and goes well with meat, fish, poultry, and salads.

Honey mustard sauce

The following ingredients are required:

  • 250 g mustard (medium hot, mild)
  • 80 g honey
  • 40 g brown sugar (even better: dark brown soft sugar )
  • 2 tbsp white balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • One pinch of salt

Preparation of the Honey Mustard Sauce

The preparation of the honey mustard sauce is easy and takes just a few minutes. The simplest variant is to stir all the ingredients together in a bowl. However, we recommend heating the sauce briefly in a saucepan and boiling it to combine the elements better. The sauce will reduce a little and thus get a more intense taste. We used the Kamado Joe Classic II ceramic grill and briefly boiled the sauce in it over direct heat.

The sauce should be prepared as fresh as possible. Sealed airtight in a screw jar, Honey Mustard Sauce can easily be kept in the refrigerator for several days. The degree of spiciness of this sauce can determine by the mustard used. In its original form, the sauce is relatively mild and creamy. By using spicy mustard or grainy mustard, both the consistency and the taste can change.

Tip:

You can also experiment wonderfully with this honey mustard sauce. For example, if you stir in some mayonnaise after boiling and cooling, the sauce becomes even creamier, and you get a great sandwich or salad sauce. If you want to add a fruity note to this sauce, add a little apple juice before boiling. If you like it spicier, you can add a few chili flakes. Smoked paprika powder is also an excellent addition and provides a subtle smoke aroma. The possibilities to change this sauce are varied and almost unlimited.

The creamy honey mustard sauce can use universally for a variety of dishes. Here are a few possible uses or ideas for using the sauce:

  • as a dip for vegetables
  • as a sauce for sandwiches or wraps
  • And as a salad dressing
  • as a glaze for chicken or pork
  • as burger sauce
  • And as a dip for chicken wings
  • as a sauce for grilled fish

The possibilities are nearly unlimited! Especially as a glaze for grilled chicken, the sauce fits like a fist. For example, glaze your grilled chicken or your chicken legs shortly before the end of the cooking time with this honey mustard sauce and let them sit for 5 minutes. The sweetish-spicy taste goes perfectly with poultry! Have fun copying and trying out!
